Hoboken, NJ - The City of Hoboken today thanks the New Jersey Office of the State Comptroller (OSC) for recognizing the Hoboken Police Department for its compliance with Attorney General internal affairs mandates, which are meant to encourage the public reporting of police misconduct. The OSC randomly selected 100 municipal police departments for a review of their websites. On Monday, April 17, 2023, the Hoboken Police Department responded to what was later determined to be a swatting incident on Grand Street between First and Newark Streets. At approximately 6:25 p.m. dispatchers received a call from someone claiming to have shot another individual inside the building. All Hoboken Police units on duty, along with the Hoboken Fire Department, Hoboken EMS, and Stevens Police Department immediately responded to the area, closing Grand Street between Newark and First Streets to the public. On March 23, 2023, at 10:57 a.m., Police Officer Tyrone Huggins responded to 311 Harrison St. after being advised there were unidentified non-residents in the building. During the investigation, 51-year-old Chandler Hawkins of Jersey City was located and arrested for defiant trespass. While being transported to police headquarters, a glass pipe commonly used to inhale CDS Crack/Cocaine, fell out of Hawkins’ pocket and was collected as evidence.
