The following is a statement from Hoboken Police Chief Steven Aguiar and Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller:
On Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, the Secaucus and Hoboken Police Departments arrested the owner of multiple dogs involved in altercations in both municipalities.
Robert Braxton, 42, of Hoboken, is charged with Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1), a crime of the second degree and two counts Endangering Another Person in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-7.1a(3), crimes of the third degree, relating to the incident that occurred in Secaucus on Monday, February 16, 2026.
Additionally, Braxton was charged with Animal Cruelty in violation of N.J.S.A. 4:22-17c(3), a crime of the third degree, Risk of Widespread Injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:17-2c, a crime of the fourth degree, and two counts of Simple Assault in violation of 2C:12-1a(1), disorderly persons offenses, relating to the incident that occurred in Hoboken on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
Three Cane Corso dogs were seized by the Secaucus Police Department after obtaining authorization from the court. The defendant was scheduled to appear in Secaucus municipal court on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, in connection with the seizure of the dogs. He was arrested prior to the hearing, and the municipal appearance was adjourned to Tuesday, March 3, 2026. All three dogs remain housed at the Secaucus Animal Shelter.
Criminal charges were filed after consulting with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. The defendant was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
